During a press conference held at the Government Information and Media Center, officials from the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation presented the ministry’s annual performance report.
They highlighted that, under the directive of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate, a High Commission has been established to address the challenges faced by Afghan migrants. Through the efforts of this commission, the necessary facilities and services have been made available to returning migrants over the past year.
According to the ministry’s officials, a total of 1,779,603 individuals have returned to Afghanistan from Iran, Pakistan, and other countries within the last year. In addition, 788,821 internally displaced and returning families have received both financial and non-financial assistance, and arrangements have been made to facilitate the relocation of 96,293 returning families to designated areas.
The officials further noted that due to the persistent efforts of the ministry, 5,766 Afghan migrants who were imprisoned in Pakistan and Turkey have been released and returned to their respective localities. In addition, 4,000 Afghans who had been detained in Iran on various charges have been repatriated to Afghanistan. Furthermore, arrangements were made for 600 Afghan migrants in Pakistan and Iran to fulfill their obligatory Hajj pilgrimage.
According to the ministry, over the past year, 13 residential townships have been cleared for the permanent settlement of migrants, and the necessary facilities have been provided. Furthermore, to address the issues faced by migrants and returnees, MoUs have been signed with 93 partner organizations, 7 agencies, and 14 educational institutions.
According to the ministry, key priorities for the current year include addressing the challenges faced by migrants and returnees, facilitating the voluntary return of Afghan migrants to the country, organizing capacity-building programs, providing essential living amenities in migrant residential settlements, and resolving their legal issues. #
