In a press conference held at the Government Media and Information Center, officials from the Ministry of Higher Education presented a report detailing the ministry’s achievements over the past year.
The report highlights significant advancements, including the establishment of 11 doctoral programs, 26 master’s programs, and 13 new faculties at public universities, as well as the introduction of 10 master’s programs at private higher education institutions—demonstrating substantial progress in the nation’s higher education sector.
Ministry officials emphasized that, in alignment with religious and national values, as well as international standards, a total of 131 academic curricula have been revised and updated. This includes 89 bachelor’s programs, 35 master’s programs, and 7 doctoral programs, all of which have been submitted for approval.
The ministry underscored its commitment to enhancing the educational landscape by recruiting 640 academic professionals through open competition and appointing 1,317 individuals to administrative, professional, and specialized roles.
The report further revealed that 189,991 students are currently enrolled in universities across the country, with 51,950 students having graduated in the past year.
In addition, 2,212 students who had been pursuing higher education abroad have returned to Afghanistan, with their academic credentials thoroughly assessed.
The ministry also reported that, over the past year, examinations were conducted for 40,000 religious scholars as part of the equivalency and credential evaluation process.
Moreover, to bolster practical training for students, facilitate the integration of graduates into government roles, and enhance the professional development of staff, the Ministry of Higher Education has signed MoUs with various sectoral ministries.
According to the ministry, nine construction projects, including laboratories, research farms, libraries, computer labs, and classrooms, have been completed and are now operational. Moreover, six renovation projects are currently underway in both the capital and provincial areas. #
