At a press conference held at the Government Media and Information Center, officials from the Ministry of National Defense presented their annual performance report.
According to the officials, the ministry’s key responsibilities and priorities include safeguarding national values and sovereignty, supporting security and law enforcement efforts, collaborating with sectoral agencies, providing assistance to those affected by natural disasters, and ensuring effective coordination with the country’s defense and security state institutions.
The officials highlighted that, over the past year, units and divisions of the National Islamic Army executed 813,352 operational missions. These operations led to the seizure of 588 light weapons, 60 heavy weapons, 1,515 kilograms of explosives, 239 hand grenades, 44 radios, 40 binoculars, 386 vehicles, and 1,982 motorcycles. In addition, 1,383 landmines were successfully neutralized.
To enhance border security and prevent security incidents, a significant number of battalions, bases, and security posts have been established across the country.
Officials stated, the Air Force also conducted 4,218 operational and training flights over the past year, restored a Black Hawk helicopter, activated the Air University, and facilitated the transportation of 77 martyrs and 567 individuals injured in natural disasters.
Furthermore, the ministry reported several key achievements in military education and training, including the enrollment of 500 high school graduates into the National Military Academy of Hazrat Maaz bin Jabal, the recruitment of 120 cadets into the Air University, the recruitment of 390 cadets into the National Military Academy of Hazrat Nu’man bin Sabit, and the graduation of 5,414 cadets from the National Defense University of Hazrat Ubaidah bin Jarrah.
In addition, 12,781 personnel completed various unit training courses, and 73 medical students graduated from different military medical disciplines.
Officials emphasized that comprehensive reforms in financial, administrative, and procurement sectors over the past year have led to full transparency across all processes. They further noted that, following the recent changes in Afghanistan, security has been ensured nationwide, combat activities have significantly decreased, and civilian casualty rates have approached zero.
The ministry also undertook the review of six key legislative documents, which were subsequently submitted to the Ministry of Justice for processing, as well as the review of 54 policies and procedures aimed at optimizing the ministry’s structures and affiliated sectors.
Looking ahead, the ministry has identified several critical priorities for the current year, including the procurement of weapons, combat techniques, and military equipment, conducting operations across seven security zones, developing the capabilities of the National Islamic Army, enhancing its intelligence operations, strengthening coordination with defense and security agencies, drafting and reviewing legislative frameworks, implementing structural reforms, and improving logistical, health, and care services. #
