Today, during the press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), officials from the Directorate General of State-owned Corporations and the Ministries of Finance and Transport and Aviation signed the memorandum of understanding on installing GPS lockers in trucks.
During the conference, officials from the Directorate General of State-owned Corporations stated that under the MoU, GPS lockers will be installed in trucks to ensure secure transit, attract investors and provide more facilities. They added that Afghan Post State-owned Corporation will pave the way for the commencement of this national and essential project with the cooperation of the Ministries of Finance and Transport and Aviation.
Providing information on smart lockers (GPS lockers), the authorities said that GPS lockers are electronic devices used for determining global positions and are installed in trucks to secure the transportation of commercial goods and reduce transit costs. Additionally, they stated that smart lockers help traders know the locations of their goods and prevent commercial goods robbery by using GPS technology.
Moreover, they provided information on the new six-digit postcode nationwide, stating that previously, Afghanistan used a four-digit postcode, which was not suitable for providing standard services with modern technology. Therefore, the decision was made to use this six-digit postcode to provide better services in accordance with updated technology.
Officials added that Afghan Post created the six-digit postcode nationwide, which has been approved by the Universal Postal Union. This new postcode will be used in both national and international postal services. According to officials, the 1405 postcodes have been adopted nationwide, covering all regions of the country.
