The World Food Programme has announced that the European Union has allocated €15 million to support Afghanistan’s efforts to combat climate change and mitigate its impacts.
The Head of the European Union Delegation for Cooperation in Afghanistan reaffirmed the EU’s steadfast commitment to providing such assistance to the Afghan population.
In Uruzgan province, several residents displaced by devastating floods have reported losing all their belongings and are now in critical need of humanitarian support. Despite their plight, they assert that no aid has yet been provided by any organization.
The Ministry of Economy has highlighted that Afghanistan is among the countries most adversely affected by climate change, particularly through recurring floods and prolonged droughts, underscoring the urgent need for assistance from the international community. Data from the World Food Programme reveals that in the current solar year, over 160,000 individuals have been directly impacted by floods, resulting in the destruction of nearly 20,000 homes and thousands of hectares of agricultural land.
