Local authorities in Herat have announced the initiation of the water filling process at the Pashdan Dam. According to officials, over 95% of the dam’s construction, including the dam wall, has been completed, and the dam is expected to be operational in the near future.
Recent rainfall and flooding have contributed to the accumulation of water in the reservoir.
The commencement of water filling at Pashdan Dam has been met with considerable enthusiasm among the residents of Herat, with many citizens visiting the site daily to witness the development.
Due to its strategic location near the city of Herat, the Pashdan Dam plays a vital role in the city’s green space development and the enhancement of its groundwater resources. Situated above the Karokh River, approximately 15 kilometers east of Herat, the dam has a storage capacity of 54 million cubic meters of water. It will also generate two megawatts of electricity and irrigate 13,000 hectares of agricultural land. The dam is expected to be fully operational within the coming months.
