Mawlawi Zakir, the head of the office of the Political deputy PM of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met today with Mr. Scott Smith, the Head of the Political Section of UNAMA.
Scott Smith, head of the political department of the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan, emphasized the humanitarian assistance of the United Nations to the Afghans and said that natural disasters in Afghanistan, especially the Herat earthquake and the return of refugees needs huge amount of humanitarian aid.
He said that these incidents had a negative impact on Afghans and increased the need for aid. He added, on the initiative of the United Nations, an international conference on Afghanistan will be held in the near future, in which the Islamic Emirate will be an important part.
Mr. Smith also mentioned the provision of facilities for refugees by the Islamic Emirate and praised the efforts of the Islamic Emirate on the part of the United Nations and said it is closely monitoring the situation of refugees and returning families and mentioned the assistance in this regard.
Mawlawi Zakir expressed his gratitude for the active presence and cooperation of the United Nations Special Representative in the country and added that with the arrival of winter, the United Nations will expand the range of humanitarian aid to Afghans.
He also said that the Islamic Emirate wants to reduce the level of unemployment and poverty by implementing large projects, and in this regard, the assistance of the United Nations and the international community is needed.
Honorable Zakir added that the United Nations should remove the existing restrictions and obstacles against the Islamic Emirate, cooperation and positive interaction should be given priority.
