Today, the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC) hosted a joint conference between the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) and the Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC). The conference focused on sharing information about a three-day dialogue in the field of climate change.
During the conference, Dr. Zainulabiddin Abid, Deputy of NEPA, stated that in a three-day discussion focused on climate change, officials from NEPA, university professors, experts, and representatives from both domestic and foreign institutions participated and exchanged views on the profound impacts of climate change in Afghanistan.
Furthermore, Dr. Abid emphasized that safeguarding Afghanistan’s environment is a key priority under the national policy of climate change by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. He underscored the imperative for full support from the international community to aid Afghans in addressing this issue, urging for the immediate initiation and swift implementation of projects to combat the dangers posed by climate change.
Similarly, he emphasized that climate change is a humanitarian concern, directly impacting ordinary people, and should be kept separate from political issues, due to the challenges and dangers posed by climate change demand collective action.
Following this, the chairman of the Norwegian Committee for Afghanistan stated that the findings from the three-day discussion demonstrate Afghanistan’s profound vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. He emphasized that the international community should refrain from politicizing this matter and instead provide comprehensive support to the Afghan people in addressing these challenges.
