Today, at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), the General Passport Directorate press conference was held, aiming to share its achievements of the past year.
During the press conference, the Director of the General Passport Directorate, Mawlawi Abdul Karim Hasib announced significant progress in passport distribution across 15 provinces, noting that operations have normalized and efforts are underway to normalize in other provinces as well. He added that over the past year, the Directorate issued over 2 million passports to citizens, and facilitated expanded visa services for overseas residents. He stated that the Directorate has increased its daily passport issuance capacity to 12,000.
To further bolster distribution capabilities, Mawlawi Hasib disclosed plans to inaugurate three new branches in Darulaman, Qala-e-Zaman Khan, and Trakhil. Furthermore, he mentioned that the online site opens once a week and automatically closes when the number of applicants is reached and all forms submitted within the week will be processed.
Moreover, Mawlawi Hasib said that the focus has been centered on enhancing the facilitation of online passport distribution, with approximately 20 thousand applicants currently being given appointments in Kabul every day. He mentioned that passports are also distributed through the petition for urgent medical patients, national traders, scholarship-winning students, Umrah ceremony participants, disabled individuals, aviation department pilots, residents with visas, government employees and national players.
Regarding payment facilities, he said that discussions are underway with other banks to extend tariff payment services beyond De Afghanistan Bank. He stated that the number of post offices has also increased to 28 offices, and serious actions have been taken against corruption and forgery, resulting in the reduction of corruption to zero.
