During a press conference held at the Government Media and Information Center, officials from the Ministry of Public Works presented their annual performance report.
The officials further stated that contracts for the reconstruction of approximately 1,000 kilometers of roads finalized last year, and the rehabilitation of the Kabul-Kandahar highway is currently in full swing.
Officials added that the preliminary survey of 604.1 kilometers of roads, topographical mapping of 321.65 kilometers of roads, and observational surveys of 997.4 kilometers of roads, completion of design for 279.48 kilometers of roads, design for 160 meters of bridges, and the initiation of design work for 244.8 kilometers of roads are among the ministry’s achievements over the past year.
According to ministry officials, over the past year, the execution of development and infrastructure projects has directly generated employment opportunities for more than 15,000 individuals.
The reconstruction of the 80-kilometer Salang Highway, the 108-kilometer Kandahar-Uruzgan highway, the 50-kilometer Trinkot-Dehrawud road, and the 80-kilometer Maruf-Argistan road are key projects being financed by the Islamic Emirate and are currently underway.
The ministry also prioritized the reconstruction of the second lot of the Herat-Chisht Sharif road, spanning 30 kilometers, as well as the second, fourth, and fifth lots of the Qaisar-Laman ring road, totaling 151 kilometers.
To ensure the preservation and maintenance of these projects, the ministry reported that, over the past year, maintenance work on 85 out of 109 projects has been completed, with the remaining 24 projects still in progress. Furthermore, 1,698 kilometers of asphalt roads have been repaired and patched.
The ministry also announced the signing of a contract for the first phase of the fourth section of the Khaf-Herat railway, alongside major repairs to the railway and non-railway sections of the Hairatan-Mazar-e-Sharif route. The initiation of the second phase of the fourth section of the Khaf-Herat railway has been identified as a priority.
Furthermore, the ministry reported the completion of the 15-kilometer Farkhar-Warsaj road and the construction of a 300-meter bridge in the Sarsheli area of Nimroz province. Ongoing projects include the construction of the 10-kilometer Gardez-Zurmat road and the second lane of the Kabul-Logar highway, extending 24.15 kilometers, under contracts with private firms. #
