On Saturday, 27th July 2024, an agreement was signed to install scanners at various customs ports across the country, at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, H.E. Alhaj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.
The signing ceremony was attended by the General Director of Administrative Affairs, Sheikh Ul Hadith Anwarulhaq Anwar, the Deputy Minister of Finance, the Director of Investment Facilitation of Administrative Affairs, and a representative of the Deputy Minister of Interior.
During the ceremony, Mawlawi Ahmad Zia Khalid, Director of Investment Facilitation of Administrative Affairs, said that the project for the installation of scanners will start soon, valued at $113,300,000, aims to enhance security at multiple customs ports across the country, including Torkham, Hayratan, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala, Torghundi, Nimruz, Khost, Paktia, Aqina, Abo Nasr Farah, and Sheirkhan. Additionally, he mentioned that the project will be completed within 2 years, creating job opportunities for 2,000 individuals.
Furthermore, Mawlawi Khalid pointed out that due to the absence of standardized scanners in the past, customs procedures were not carried out in a standard manner. Consequently, this created smuggling opportunities for prohibited goods such as narcotics and weapons. He stated that upon completing the project, these issues will be resolved.
