The Political Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, H.E. Mawlawi Abdul Kabir engaged in a discussion with the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Mr. Tomas Niklasson, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting was also attended by the EU Chargé d’Affaires to Afghanistan, Mrs. Veronika Bošković-Pohar.
At the outset, appreciating the progress made in Afghanistan and highlighting the maintenance of ties between the Islamic Emirate and the European Union, EU Special Envoy Mr. Tomas Niklasson mentioned that the Islamic Emirate is effectively tackling issues related to security, eliminating corruption and combating drugs. He also reiterated that, alongside the Islamic Emirate’s activities in combating drugs, there is a need for relevant international institutions to participate in alternative cultivation and the treatment of addicted individuals.
Moreover, the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan stated that the European Union, in cooperation with international institutions, will soon assist farmers with 45 million Euros for alternative cultivation. Regarding access for EU workers to all parts of Afghanistan to deliver assistance, Mr. Tomas Niklasson said he had discussed with neighboring countries the prevention of forcibly expelling Afghan migrants.
In turn, the Political Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, H.E. Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, expressed his gratitude for the EU’s assistance to Afghanistan and emphasized the importance of recent EU support in the field of alternative cultivation. He mentioned that in order to combat effectively and consistently against drugs, the Islamic Emirate has established a high commission, which operates with full commitment.
The Political Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, H.E. Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, also stated that the Islamic Emirate, in addition to treating individuals addicted of the previous administration, provides job opportunities and vocational training.
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation and assistance from donor institutions like the EU for Afghan migrants, the Political Deputy Prime Minister underscored that neighboring and other countries must stop the forcible expulsion of Afghans.
