The World Bank has started work on about 200 projects, of various sizes, in Herat province, local officials confirmed.
Officials said the projects worth over 300 million Afs include the construction of roads, small dams, water reservoirs and canals, culverts and retaining walls.
Noor Ahmad Islamjar, the governor of Herat, said the situation in the country is ready for investment. Because of this, efforts are being made in the western region to resume work on macro-economic projects.
He also said these projects are creating jobs for thousands of people.
Local officials said construction on small dams and reservoirs is of critical importance to the province. While work was started on some projects 18 months ago, the “social livelihood” project, by which the program is known, has been rolled out across many villages, providing jobs to locals.
