Expansion of Education, Development of Higher Education and Strengthening of Scientific Research; Key Achievements of Education, Higher Education and Research Week in 1447 AH
Within the framework of the “Government in the Mirror of the Press” program and on the occasion of Education, Higher Education and Research Week, announced the major achievements of the country’s educational, higher education, and scientific institutions during 1447 AH. According to the information, significant and wide-ranging measures were undertaken during 1447 AH to expand educational infrastructure, increase access to education and higher education, build the capacity of teachers and university lecturers, develop technical and vocational education, streamline educational services and advance scientific research.
During 1447 AH, the Ministry of Education constructed new buildings for 238 modern and religious schools and renovated and rehabilitated 970 modern and religious schools. The total number of public and private modern schools reached 18090, while the number of religious schools reached 20372. During 1447 AH, more than 7.62 million students were actively attending schools across the country.
According to the information, over 2444000 students of Islamic sciences were studying at religious schools, while educational programs were conducted for more than 93000 people at 4973 literacy centers. In addition, access to educational services was provided to more than 82000 returnees.
According to the information of the Ministry of Higher Education, over 212000 students continued their studies at public and private universities. It also announced that more than 110000 academic documents were issued to graduates during 1447 AH. To strengthen academic capacity, 158 training programs were organized for students and over 1000 lecturers were introduced for short-term and long-term training programs.
During 1447 AH, 290 lecturers were introduced for master's degree programs and 94 lecturers for doctoral programs. In addition, 137 lecturers returned to Afghanistan after completing their studies abroad, while new master's and doctoral programs were established at public and private universities. To develop higher education infrastructure, 22 development projects were implemented at universities and religious higher education institutions.
According to the information of the General Authority for Examination, 53 rounds of the Kankor examination were held nationwide, with 189169 applicants participating. The authority also streamlined registration, complaint submission, academic document processing and graduate information correction procedures by introducing online systems.
Based on the information of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority, over 77885 students and trainees were enrolled in technical and vocational high schools and institutes. During 1447 AH, 9 educational centers were renovated and rehabilitated, while 5 specialized educational centers for visually and hearing-impaired students were established. Furthermore, more than 11000 people benefited from technical and vocational training programs and more than 10000 graduates were referred to government institutions and organizations to gain practical work experience.
The Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs also reported that, in the field of education 2580 new students were enrolled in its educational centers during 1447 AH, bringing the total number of students at these centers to 7643. In addition, 994 students graduated from these institutions.
Furthermore, the Afghanistan Science Academy reported the completion of 14 scientific and research projects in the fields of Islamic studies, humanities, natural sciences and technical sciences, as well as the publication of 164 scientific and research articles. It also organized 100 scientific and research conferences and 6 scientific and research seminars. Meanwhile, work is ongoing on 192 scientific and research projects at the Academy.
According to the information, the Islamic Emirate has continued its efforts to build a capable education system and provide opportunities for the country’s scientific and professional development by focusing on expanding education, developing higher education, strengthening scientific research, enhancing human-resource capacity, and creating educational and vocational opportunities.
The "Government in the Mirror of the Press" program was launched by the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC) to highlight the key achievements, activities and public services of government institutions.
