MoAIL: Effective Activities Were Done in the Areas of Agricultural and Livestock Development, and Natural Resources Management

Today, on 28 July 2025, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MoAIL), during a press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), presented the MoAIL’s annual achievements and performances as part of IEA’s entity to report the annual achievements.
During the press conference, the officials stated that over the past year, productive activities were undertaken in the areas of agricultural and livestock sector development, mechanization of production, natural resource conservation, water management, and land regulation. Through the agricultural development fund, 1.4 billion Afghanis in Islamic financing was provided to farmers, livestock owners, and the private sector. Additionally, a total of 493 research trials were conducted in research farms across the center and provinces, resulting in the identification of new and resistant plant varieties.
The officials further stated that over 43000 metric tons of improved wheat seeds and chemical fertilizers, along with hundreds of tons of improved seeds of vegetables, saffron, cotton, and other medicinal plants, were issued to farmers across 34 provinces. Throughout the past year, hundreds of greenhouses and orchards were established across the country in coordination with partner institutions and the private sector. Over 150000 farmers have received professional training in grains, plant pests, modern cultivation methods, and the use of machinery.
According to the officials, other key projects include the construction and rehabilitation of modern cold storage, equipping research farms, establishing demonstration plots, distributing certification for improved seeds, and controlling plant pests across more than 117000 hectares of land. Furthermore, over 300000 cows have been improved through artificial insemination, and 320000 doses of frozen sperm have been produced. Additionally, over 16 million animals have been vaccinated and 10 million treated. In addition, dozens of milk collection centers, hundreds of animal health clinics, fish farming facilities, and dairy production centers have been equipped and activated across various provinces. This initiative has led to the standardization of animal products and increased income for livestock owners.
Based on the information, through the implementation of irrigation projects in 12 provinces of the country, thousands of hectares of land have come under irrigation. Additionally, 138 check dams have been constructed in 10 provinces to feed groundwater. The management and protection of 1.7 million hectares of forest, 30 million hectares of pastureland, and 23 protected areas have been carried out. Likewise, over 250000 saplings have been produced, and over 100 million saplings and cuttings have been planted nationwide through tree planting campaigns.
Furthermore, the officials mentioned that throughout the past year, approximately 1.7 million jeribs of Emirati land were registered in the Land Bank, and over 9 million jeribs of land including Emirati, pastureland, and leased were surveyed, using modern technology. More than 130000 jeribs of land have been allocated to ministries and government entities. In addition, over 84000 hectares across 29 provinces have been earmarked for industrial park development, and the transfer process is ongoing.
As part of investment promotion efforts, investment opportunities amounting to over 1.4 billion Afghanis have been provided for 235 investors. Approximately 192 million USD has been costed by 118 national and international institutions in implementing agricultural, irrigation, and livestock projects.
