Economic Growth, Domestic Production and Investment Expansion; Key Achievements of Economy and Self-Sufficiency Week in 1447 AH
Within the framework of the "Government in the Mirror of the Press" program and on the occasion of the Economy and Self-Sufficiency Week, the major achievements of the country's economic sector during 1447 AH were announced. According to the report, significant progress was made in the areas of mining, industry, trade, agriculture, transport, standards and quality, and the banking sector to strengthen the national economy, expand domestic production and attract investment.
Based on the information, during 1447 AH, the Five-Year National Development Strategy of Afghanistan was approved by the Economic Commission and subsequently endorsed by the leadership of the Islamic Emirate. The strategy is built on three pillars and fifteen priority programs, focusing on good governance, the rule of law, security, public order, and economic and social development. In addition, the 1405 Solar year development budget was prepared in accordance with the priorities outlined in the strategy.
According to the information, in the mines and petroleum sector, more than AFN 10 billion was invested in mining projects. In addition, 45 new mineral occurrence sites were discovered and registered across 28 provinces, while 350 mining projects were either offered through competitive bidding or granted operating licenses. Furthermore, mining contracts created 50000 direct jobs, bringing the total number of employment opportunities generated in the sector to 200000 jobs.
In the industry and trade sector, Afghanistan's total trade volume during 1447 AH reached USD 13.901 billion, including USD 1.722 billion in exports and USD 12.178 billion in imports. During the same period, 2804 jeribs of land were allocated to 576 factories, while 174 new industrial companies commenced operations across 16 industrial sectors, resulting in USD 34 million in industrial investment.
To support domestic industry, 1746825 metric tons of imported raw materials and 1329 units of industrial machinery benefited from customs exemptions.
In the field of investment, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce facilitated the signing of 150 MoUs, commercial agreements and investment contracts between Afghanistan's private sector and regional countries, with a total value of USD 2.389 billion.
In the agriculture and livestock sector, 600 metric tons of certified improved wheat seed were distributed across 12 provinces to increase domestic production. In addition, 1001 jeribs of productive orchards equipped with drip irrigation systems were established, while 21400 metric tons of wheat were purchased from local farmers. The country currently produces approximately 3.9 million metric tons of milk annually, exceeding domestic demand.
In the area of natural resource conservation, approximately 18.6 million saplings were planted nationwide, 144 hectares of degraded pistachio forests were rehabilitated and 185 hectares of walnut forests were expanded.
In the transport and civil aviation sector, the country's airports handled more than 12832 flights, transporting 1570896 passengers. In addition, more than 46.592 million tons of commercial goods were transported through the country's land transport. During the same period, work began on 60 development projects, while 21 projects were completed and put into operation.
In the field of standards and quality, 1003 national standards covering the economic, industrial and service sectors have been approved. During 1447 AH, more than 104000 samples of construction materials, 5256 electrical equipment samples and hundreds of other products were tested. In addition, 8 specialized laboratories have been established and equipped in various sectors.
In the banking sector, the value of the Afghani appreciated by approximately 6.01 percent compared to the previous year, while the total currency in circulation reached AFN 409 billion. Moreover, bank financing facilitated the creation of 141889 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Based on the information, the Islamic Emirate continues its efforts to achieve economic self- sufficiency and sustainable national growth by expanding domestic production, encouraging investment, increasing exports, strengthening the agriculture and mining sectors and creating employment opportunities.
