MoIC: Afghanistan’s Trade Expanded with Over 100 Nations

On 19 July 2025, officials from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC), during a press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), presented the MoIC’s annual achievements and performance as part of IEA’s entity to report the annual achievements.

The officials of MoIC during the press conference stated that the ratification law of industrial areas and the approval of the facilities management regulation for returning traders and industrialists by the Esteemed Amirul Mominin (may Allah protect him), along with the allocation of over 160,000 jeribs of land to industrialists, the establishment of industrial parks in various regions of the county, and the completion of infrastructure projects, including the fourth phase of the electricity distribution system in Herat industrial area, are among the major achievements of the past year.

The officials of MoIC announced that the volume of trade has reached approximately 13 billion dollars, and more than 8 million tons of goods have been transited through Afghanistan.

Based on the provided information, the attraction of approximately 400 million dollars in investments has paved the way for new opportunities for both domestic and overseas investors. Additionally, over 2,000 investors have entered the country through Kabul Airport and other official ways, showing increased trust and interest in Afghanistan's economic environment.

According to the officials, over the past year, 27 domestic exhibitions were held, providing the ground for product introduction and marketing. Additionally, Afghanistan's domestic products were showcased in 17 regional and international exhibitions. To enhance commercial and economic ties, 16 memorandums of understanding have been signed with various countries. Furthermore, the leadership of the Ministry, through official trips to Russia, China, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Iran, and with the introduction of commercial attachés to various countries, has taken effective steps to enhance economic and commercial cooperation and attract investment.

The officials stated that over the past year, a total of 20,806 work permits were issued to investors and applicants in various sectors. Additionally, 85 projects were implemented across 28 provinces, creating job opportunities for more than 142,000 individuals.

Based on the information, to support domestic production, tariffs on similar imported goods in 34 sectors have been increased. Conversely, preferential tariffs have been granted for the import of 1,176 sets of industrial machinery and 2.7 million tons of raw materials. Furthermore, the ministry's plans include a 10% increase in gross domestic product, a 10% growth in trade volume, a 25% rise in exports, attracting 500 million dollars in investment, and creating over 100,000 new job opportunities.

The Ministry announced that building 50 cold storages in various provinces, activating 13 industrial parks, organizing 52 national and international exhibitions, and establishing export complexes at the country's ports are part of the ministry's future plans.
