MoE: The Draft of Afghanistan’s Development Strategy Has Been Completed

On 19 July 2025, officials from the Ministry of Economy (MoE), during a press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), presented the MoE’s annual achievements and performance as part of IEA’s entity to report the annual achievements.
During the press conference, the officials of MoE stated that to strengthen development management of the country, the final draft of Afghanistan’s development strategy has been completed. In addition, several measures have been taken to monitor, evaluate, and report on the progress of development projects.
The officials announced that a five-year development strategy has been prepared, focusing on key goals such as economic growth, job creation, poverty reduction, infrastructure development, private sector support, and environmental protection. The strategy has been designed with 3 main goals, 10 sub-goals, 3 pillars, and 15 national programs.
According to the officials, in the past year, 370 development projects at the level of budgetary departments and 873 sub-projects at the provincial level were monitored, with reports submitted to the relevant authorities. Additionally, In the past year, 140 domestic organizations and 6 foreign organizations were granted activity licenses following approval by the high evaluation commission. As a result, the total number of active NGOs in the country reached 2,640.
Furthermore, the officials added that in the past year, a total of 1,619 projects across various sectors were introduced to the secondary units of the Ministry of Economy. Out of these, domestic organizations completed 1,311 projects, while foreign organizations completed 605, with a total budget of 695.7 million dollars. Also, to promote transparency and prevent delays in project implementation, new digital systems have been developed for project monitoring and evaluation.
Based on the information, as part of the High Commission for Addressing the Refugee Issues, the Ministry is responsible for securing domestic and international aid. Additionally, over the past year, 201 projects worth 37.8 million dollars were implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations through both domestic and foreign organizations.
The Ministry announced that in the work plan of 1404 solar year, a total of 43 activities were planned, of which 37 are currently under implementation.
