DAB: The Value of the Afghani Has Increased by 0.79% Against USD Compared to Last Year

Today, on 23 July 2025, officials from the Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), during a press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), presented the DAB’s annual achievements and performances as part of IEA’s entity to report the annual achievements.
During the press conference, the officials of DAB stated that by implementing balanced and prudent monetary policies, Da Afghanistan Bank succeeded in maintaining the value of the Afghani against currency volatility. According to official statistics, the value of the Afghani has increased by 0.79% against the USD compared to last year. Additionally, according to the latest data, the monetary base has reached 460.35 billion Afghani and currency in circulation has reached 388.03 billion Afghani, showing the central bank’s effective liquidity management.
The officials further stated that the DAB maintained inflation at a stable level in 1446 Hijri, averaging -2.62%. By the end of second month of solar year (Thor), inflation rose slightly to 0.49%, helping preserve purchasing power and boost investor confidence.
Furthermore, a total of 4,867,802,000 Afghani in worn-out banknotes has been withdrawn from circulation, incinerated, and removed from the market in accordance with official procedures. Over the last year, a total of 41 billion and 512 million Afghani in newly printed banknotes of various denominations was introduced into the market.
According to the officials, the withdrawal limits from Afghani accounts have been increased to 350,000 Afghani weekly and 1,000,000 Afghani monthly. For USD accounts, the limits have been raised to USD 5,000 weekly and USD 15,000 monthly.
Based on the information, compared to last year, the volume of financial support provided by banks has increased by 71%. Additionally, challenges related to international money transfers have been significantly reduced. Likewise, in line with efforts to ensure transparency and security in financial services, the operations of exchange bureaus and money service providers have been systematized and mechanized. According to official statistics, by the end of the year 1446 Hijri, the number of corporate licenses issued to exchange bureaus and money service companies reached 1,312, and the number of registered branches reached 1,241.
The officials mentioned that over the past year, more than 9,000 complaints and cases related to electronic payment services of financial institutions have been reviewed and resolved. The total value of electronic payments reached approximately 25.42 billion Afghani over the past year, marking a significant increase of 86% compared to the previous year.
According to the officials, over the past year, DAB made key accomplishments, including strengthening the banking system, facilitating bank account withdrawals, achieving unprecedented increases in cash guarantees, expanding credit financing and deposits, and repaying insured amounts.
