Within the framework of the “Government in the Mirror of the Press” program and on the occasion of the Politics and Security Week, during a press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) announced the major achievements of the country’s political and security institutions in 1447 AH. According to the information, important and practical steps were taken in several areas, including expanding Afghanistan’s political and economic relations with countries in the region and around the world, strengthening defense and security capacities, combating drugs, responding to emergencies, and reforming and training prisoners. Furthermore, during 1447 AH, Afghanistan’s relations with neighboring, regional, and other countries around the world were expanded based on a balanced and economy focused foreign policy.

According to the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during 1447 AH, Afghanistan officially established diplomatic and consular relations with Kuwait. On July 3, 2025, the Russian Federation became the first country to officially recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. In addition, three Afghan diplomatic and consular missions became operational in Kuwait and Germany. Diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan were upgraded to the ambassadorial level. Approval was also given for the appointment of ambassadors to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan and Pakistan.

During 1447 AH, senior Afghan officials and representatives of various government institutions made 93 official foreign visits. Afghanistan was also officially accepted as a member of the Moscow Format. Furthermore, the Afghanistan–Central Asia Consultative Dialogue conference was held in Kabul with the participation of representatives from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

During 1447 AH, in the economic sector, an agreement on a feasibility study for the Afghan Trans project was signed between Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan. Additionally, the value of Afghanistan’s exports to India reached USD 773 million, making India Afghanistan’s largest export market. Trade between Afghanistan and Iran exceeded USD 3.3 billion, while trade agreements worth more than USD 1 billion were signed between Afghanistan and various institutions of Uzbekistan.

During 1447 AH, in the consular services section, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided a wide range of services to Afghan citizens and foreign nationals. Over 1000 Afghan prisoners were transferred back to Afghanistan, after releasing from prisons of Iran, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates. Furthermore, out of 267 cases of Afghan citizens reported missing abroad, 72 people were identified and reunited with their families.

During 1447 AH, 203693 visas were issued to foreign nationals, while 313796 passports were issued to Afghan citizens living abroad. In addition, 64541 road passes were issued and passport issuance services were active at 28 Afghan diplomatic and consular missions. With the introduction of a biometric system for issuing criminal responsibility clearance certificates, the processing time was reduced from 15 days to 1 or 2 days. Applications from 42253 people were processed under this system.

According to the information of the Ministry of National Defense, during 1447 AH, security and operational missions were carried out independently and jointly with other security institutions across the country. Fixed security posts, mobile patrols and checkpoints were established to ensure security on highways and in cities.

Based on the information of the Ministry of National Defense, during the security operations, the forces of the Afghan National Islamic Army discovered and confiscated 2858 light and heavy weapons, 25854 rounds of ammunition, 169 mines, 7 hand grenades, 7 communication devices and 10 cameras. In addition, 804 smugglers, along with their vehicles were arrested.

During 1447 AH, over 11258 kilograms of opium, 4182 kilograms of hashish and 58 kilograms of methamphetamine were discovered and confiscated. 20751 members of the Afghan National Islamic Army were enrolled in educational and training centers, while 19753 members graduated after completing professional and specialized training.

According to information of the Ministry of Interior, during 1447 AH, ensuring nationwide security, combating crime, protecting highways and public facilities, managing traffic and responding to incidents were among the Ministry’s main priorities. Furthermore, under the community policing program, 1543 community meetings were held across the country. The deputy of national public protection also provided security for 136 government, private and international projects.

During 1447 AH, 46107 operations were conducted, 13326 suspects were arrested, 2159 tons of drugs were discovered and confiscated, as well as over 21569 hectares of drug producing fields were destroyed. Additionally, 533 drug production factories, facilities producing addictive tablets and alcohol production facilities were destroyed. Over 33000 drug addicts were collected and referred for treatment, of whom 32876 people were treated and returned to their families. Approximately, 95000 police personnel received training at educational, higher education and training institutions.

During 1447 AH, 2596 fire incidents were recorded across the country. Based on the information of the Ministry of Interior, the losses caused by these incidents were estimated over AFN 612 million and USD 2057000. However, firefighting teams, through their timely response and rescue operations, prevented over AFN 7245000000 and USD 7648000 losses.

During 1447 AH, over 15000 prisoners were held in detention facilities in Kabul and the provinces. Based on the amnesty and sentence reduction decrees issued by the Supreme Leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, a number of prisoners were released while the sentences of others were reduced.

During 1447 AH, to improve the rehabilitation and educational conditions of prisoners, opportunities were provided for thousands of them to receive religious, modern, literacy and vocational education. thousands of prisoners studied religious sciences at 97 religious schools operating inside detention facilities in Kabul and the provinces and 3063 of them graduated.

During 1447 AH, 2836 detainees were provided with modern education at 21 schools. 4099 prisoners received literacy education in 142 classes, while another 3018 prisoners received vocational training. Of these, 702 people graduated from modern education programs, 1836 from literacy programs and 1331 from vocational training programs. Furthermore, 16750 male and female prisoners participated in sports activities including futsal, volleyball and running.

The achievements of the Politics and Security Week show that in 1447 AH, alongside expanding Afghanistan’s political and economic engagement with countries in the region and around the world, significant attention was given to strengthening defense and security capacities, combating crime and drugs, ensuring the security of projects and highways, providing consular services, and reforming and rehabilitating prisoners.
