Supporting Vulnerable Groups, Helping Returnees and Expanding Social Services; Key Achievements of Assistance Needy and Social Services Week in 1447 AH
Within the framework of the “Government in the Mirror of the Press” program and on the occasion of the Assistance Needy and Social Services Week, during a press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) announced the major achievements of the country’s social and support institutions in 1447 AH. According to the information, millions of orphans, widows, persons with disabilities, returnees, victims of disasters and needy families have benefited from assistances and social services.
Based on the information, during the 1447 AH, the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled Affairs registered 680583 orphans, widows and persons with disabilities across the country. This included 403302 orphans, 101652 widows and 175629 persons with disabilities. Furthermore, the Ministry distributed AFN 12600000000 in cash assistance through the banking system to 650000 eligible people. In addition, food and non-food assistance worth USD 10 million was provided to around 100000 needy families. To continue supporting these groups, AFN 11 billion was allocated in the 1405 fiscal year budget.
According to the information, during the 1447 AH, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs provided assistance to 10930 orphans and children without parental care, including 5548 children who are being cared for in government run orphanages. Additionally, the Ministry handled the cases of 13774 children at risk, while 7260 children, including victims of trafficking, children at risk and children under the care of rehabilitation centers were reunited with their families and reintegrated into society. The Ministry also provided education and care for 14311 children in kindergartens. In cooperation with partner organizations, food assistance was distributed to over 351000 disadvantaged families, cash assistance was provided to over 237000 people and non-food assistance was distributed to around 52000 needy families.
According to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, during the 1447 AH, 419075 families, comprising 1997471 people returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. Since the re-establishment of the IEA, 660581 families, consisting of 4481704 people have returned to Afghanistan.
Based on the information of the Ministry of Economy, during the 1447 AH, over USD 21995000 and over AFN 48 million in assistance were collected from domestic and international organizations for deported migrants. Additionally, over USD 23297000 and over AFN 93000000 were collected for people affected by natural disasters.
During the 1447 AH, The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock distributed cash assistance and wheat to 50000 returnee families during the winter season. Furthermore, the Ministry of Vice and Virtue and Complaints Handling inspectors collected 12510 people with mental health conditions from communities and referred them to the Afghan Red Crescent Society for treatment and care.
According to the information, during 1447 AH, Afghanistan Disaster Management Authority distributed food and non-food assistance to over 672000 families affected by natural disasters. In addition, the Authority distributed AFN 1990582000 in cash assistance to 398454 families. Furthermore, 4353 residential houses were constructed and rehabilitated to help resettle disaster-affected families. Of these, 2138 houses were newly constructed, while 2215 houses were repaired and rehabilitated. 278 protective and infrastructure projects were implemented as part of disaster-prevention efforts, creating employment opportunities for 84933 people.
During 1447 AH, over 108 square kilometers of mine contaminated areas were cleared. In addition, mine risk and unexploded ordnance awareness programs were conducted for 2357593 people. For returnees, 630 standard tents were established in the Omari, Anzargai, Milak and Islam Qala camps, providing temporary shelter for over 108000 returnees.
Based on the information of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, during 1447 AH, food, non-food and cash assistance was provided to 382561 people. Of these, approximately 90000 families received food and non-food assistance, while around 70000 families received over AFN 1235000000 in cash assistance. Over 179000 returnees benefited from health services. In addition, assistance was provided to 38901 families, while over 180000 families in Balkh, Samangan and Kunar provinces received cash and non-cash assistance in support of earthquake affected families
Based on these achievements, the IEA has continued its efforts to strengthen the social support system by focusing on vulnerable groups, returnees, disaster victims and the expansion of social services, with the aim of reducing the difficulties faced by needy individuals and families.
The "Government in the Mirror of the Press" program was launched by the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC) to highlight the key achievements, activities and public services of government institutions.
