Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund Inaugurates the Communications and Information Technology Exhibition
The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, today, Sunday, July 26, 2026, inaugurated Afghanistan's first-ever Communications and Information Technology Exhibition at the Afghanistan International Exhibition Center.
At the outset of his remarks, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs extended his condolences to fellow citizens affected by the recent floods across various parts of the country, particularly in Nuristan Province. He prayed that Almighty Allah grant the martyrs the highest place in Paradise and bless the injured with a swift and complete recovery.
The Deputy PM stated that, in the modern era, technological advancement and communication infrastructure rank among the foremost priorities of nations, and that these advancements have intensified global competition. The Deputy PM added that advancing the fields of technology and communications in line with the demands of the modern age is one of our greatest responsibilities. He emphasized that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seeks to gradually utilize its existing capacities to become increasingly competitive with the countries of the region and the wider world in these sectors.
The Deputy PM described Afghanistan's strategic geographical location as a significant asset, enabling the country to serve as a regional connectivity hub. He stated, "Afghanistan can connect South Asia with Central Asia through data transit." He further noted that, since the Islamic Emirate regained power, Afghanistan has made considerable progress in the communications and technology sector. Many previously underserved areas have been brought under telecommunications coverage, and important advancements have been achieved in digital governance. As a notable example, he referred to the implementation, some time ago, of the official document management system for government institutions.
The Deputy PM described the organization of this exhibition as an important step toward promoting and strengthening the culture of technology. He added that technological advancement guarantees greater transparency in administrative affairs, proper revenue management, time efficiency, simplified procedures, and the reduction of errors in operations.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund stated that, in order to compete with the rest of the world and achieve comparable progress, it is essential to utilize advanced technology across every aspect of life. He added, "It is both our religious and moral responsibility to make ourselves competitive with the rest of the world."
The Deputy PM described the exhibition as an essential initiative for nurturing the talents of Afghan youth, supporting their innovations, and fostering the country's emerging generation of innovators through technical programs. He expressed hope that such exhibitions would strengthen cooperation among the Islamic Emirate, the private sector, academic institutions, and innovative young people, enabling the country to make even greater progress in the fields of technology and digital development.
In conclusion, Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund reassured the people that the Islamic Emirate is making every possible effort to address unemployment by creating employment opportunities within the country. He stated that, to this end, the Islamic Emirate has launched major development projects across various sectors, trade has expanded, and tax reductions have been introduced to facilitate private sector activities, creating employment opportunities for many citizens. However, he emphasized that further efforts are still required to reduce the unemployment rate.
