Historic Achievements by Afghanistan’s Young Athletes: Six Medals Secured at Asian Competitions

During a press briefing held at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), the leadership of the Directorate General of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports presented a detailed report of the recent international achievements of Afghan athletes.
Mawlavi Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of Olympic, Physical Education, and Sports, stated that Afghanistan’s young athletes delivered an exceptional performance at the 3rd Asian Youth Competitions, earning a total of six medals.
He noted that the competition, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain in Manama, featured more than 4,000 athletes from 45 countries participating in 24 sporting categories. Afghanistan was represented by 57 athletes and coaches across eight disciplines.
According to the Directorate, Afghanistan secured one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals; finishing 24th overall and surpassing several countries, including Qatar, Cambodia, Pakistan, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Yemen, and Oman.
Officials further reported that Afghanistan’s U-17 national futsal team clinched the gold medal after defeating Iran 2–1 in the final match. The team had previously recorded victories against Uzbekistan, Bahrain, China, and Thailand.
In addition, the national volleyball team reached the finals of the Central Asian Championships but narrowly lost to Turkmenistan with a score of 3–2, earning the runner-up position.
