GMIC at a Glance
The Government Media and Information (GIMC) serves as a vital communication bridge between the government, the media, and the public. As one of the most integral components of the government's information and communications apparatus, it plays a pivotal role in facilitating media relations, disseminating government policies and initiatives, and ensuring transparency through the timely provision of information. With its advanced technical infrastructure and skilled personnel, GMIC actively enhances public awareness by reflecting government performance and initiatives through various media channels.
Since its establishment, GIMC has been instrumental in strengthening the flow of information, ensuring journalists' access to reliable information, fostering constructive engagement between media outlets and government institutions, and shaping public discourse. Over the years, it has undertaken significant initiatives to enhance governmental transparency, counter misinformation, and promote an informed society.
GMIC was established under Decree No. 3397, dated 2/6/1387 (Solar Hijri Calendar). Its core mandate includes fostering collaboration between government institutions and the media, facilitating journalists' access to accurate information, effectively showcasing governmental achievements, advocating for national policies and values, countering negative propaganda, enhancing the capacity of government spokespersons and press officers, and disseminating official directives, messages, decrees, and statements issued by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
Evolution and Structural Integration
Initially, GIMC operated with financial and technical support from donor agencies. However, in 1391 (Solar Hijri Calendar), it was formally integrated into the government's organizational framework. Simultaneously, its headquarters were relocated from Shash Darak, Kabul, to the Marble Palace, and its operations transitioned to full government funding.
In 1398 (Solar Hijri Calendar), Office of the Public and Strategic Affairs was established under the Administrative Office of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. As part of a broader structural realignment, the Government Media and Information Media Center was incorporated into this newly established office to streamline communication efforts and enhance strategic media engagement.
Following the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate, structural adjustments were made to optimize government communications. Consequently, Office of the Public and Strategic Affairs was reconstituted as the Deputy Directorate of Public and Strategic Affairs under the General Directorate of Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office. In alignment with this new structure, the Government Media and Information Center was seamlessly integrated into the Deputy Directorate of Public and Strategic Affairs, ensuring continuity in its mandate and activities.
Key Contributions and Achievements
Since the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate, GMIC has undertaken a series of impactful initiatives, including:
· Organizing 246 high-profile press conferences.
· Producing and publishing 512 news clips.
· Coordinating 42 exclusive interviews between government spokespersons and both domestic and international media outlets.
· Conducting capacity-building workshops for government spokespersons and press officers.
These initiatives have significantly enriched governmental media outreach, improved public access to reliable information, reinforced strategic communication efforts, and strengthened collaboration between government institutions and the media.
Since its inception, the Government Media and Information Center has remained steadfast in its commitment to facilitating journalists' access to accurate and timely information. Through its dedicated efforts, the center continues to play a vital role in informing both the nation and the international community about the policies, initiatives, and achievements of the Islamic Emirate and its governing institutions.
