Director of GMIC Meets with UNAMA’s Head of Strategic Communications and Deputy Head of the Human Rights Section
The Director of the Government Information and Media Center (GMIC), Mawlavi Naeemulhaq Haqqani, met on Monday (December 1, 2025) in Kabul with UNAMA’s Head of Strategic Communications and the Deputy Head of its Human Rights Section at his office.
At the outset, Mr. Haqqani welcomed the visiting delegation and provided a comprehensive overview of the structure, mandate, and activities of the Government Media and Information Center.
He emphasized that the Islamic Emirate supports media operations and freedom of expression within the framework of Islamic principles and has consistently worked to advance and strengthen this sector. He added that the GMIC continues to serve as an essential communication bridge between government institutions and the media, facilitating cooperation between government bodies and media outlets, and promptly addressing journalists’ challenges in accessing information.
Mr. Haqqani also urged UNAMA representatives to ensure that their assessments and reports on Afghanistan’s media environment are factual, balanced, and reflective of realities on the ground, in order to raise awareness and enabling the international community to gain accurate information.
During the meeting, Mr. Stephen Smith, UNAMA’s Head of Strategic Communications in Kabul, and Mr. John Luca Siga Bettel, Deputy Head of the Mission’s Human Rights Section, expressed their appreciation to the GMIC leadership for hosting the engagement.
They commended the Center’s efforts in facilitating access to information, maintaining open channels of communication with media organizations, strengthening coordination between the media and government entities, and improving mechanisms for information dissemination.
In conclusion, the UNAMA officials described the meeting as productive and underscored the importance of continuing such constructive engagements.
