Effective Steps Toward Development and the Strengthening of International Relations
A Week in Review:
In recent days, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has undertaken significant initiatives and achieved notable progress in the areas of foreign relations, implementation of development projects, and youth capacity building.
The Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan formally received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of Qatar to Afghanistan during an official ceremony. Expressing appreciation for Qatar’s continued cooperation, he voiced hope that this step would further strengthen diplomatic relations and expand bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The National Procurement Commission approved 11 projects with a total value exceeding 1.538 billion Afghanis. These projects include the rehabilitation of sections of Kabul and Ghor airports, the construction and rehabilitation of roads, the establishment and installation of power substations, and the procurement of mining equipment. In a related development, the Islamic Emirate has expanded its cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran in the production and export of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. During a meeting with Iran’s Deputy Minister of Public Health, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs emphasized the importance of sustained, long-term cooperation in this sector.
Meanwhile, in Paktika Province, construction of the Paltuni Dam has reached 25 percent completion. Once finalized, the project will have the capacity to irrigate 25,000 hectares of agricultural land and generate one megawatt of electricity. In Kandahar, the construction of a cargo terminal valued at 502 million Afghanis is expected to streamline the transportation system, enhance logistics services, and create new employment opportunities. Similarly, in Parwan Province, the 220/20-kilovolt substation project, with an estimated cost of approximately 360 million Afghanis, will strengthen the electricity infrastructure and facilitate industrial growth and investment. Collectively, these projects contribute to economic growth, industrial development, and the improvement of essential public services.
In addition, a graduation ceremony was held for 3,500 students of technical and vocational education institutes. Addressing the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs encouraged the graduates and underscored their vital role in the reconstruction and development of the country.
Furthermore, the Director-General for Operations of the European Union’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid met with the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to continuing assistance to the people of Afghanistan. Discussions during the meeting focused on humanitarian aid, the return of migrants, and the creation of employment opportunities for young people.
In an unprecedented development, 14 women who were victims of domestic violence in Logar Province were rescued through the efforts of the Directorate for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. Among them was a woman who had endured more than 50 years of domestic confinement and abuse. In addition, three cases of forced marriage were successfully prevented.
These recent developments demonstrate that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is simultaneously focusing on strengthening international relations, advancing infrastructure development, and supporting society; particularly women and youth. Tangible actions in development projects, regional cooperation, and social protection reflect the government’s commitment to reconstruction, public welfare, and sustainable progress.
