Badakhshan Provincial Hospital Capacity Expanded to 250 Beds
The Ministry of Public Health has expanded the capacity of Badakhshan Provincial Hospital from 120 to 250 beds.
Officials from the Badakhshan Public Health Directorate stated that the expansion will enable the activation of several specialized medical departments, including Otolaryngology (ENT), Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Neurosurgery, Burn Treatment, and Mental Health Services.
The Hospital Director, Dr. Shafiq Hamdard, indicated that prior to the expansion, the hospital faced significant capacity constraints, resulting in the referral of some patients to other provinces; particularly Kunduz Province; for specialized care. He confirmed that this challenge has now been addressed, significantly improving patient access to healthcare services.
Residents of Badakhshan welcomed the expansion and expressed optimism that it would lead to improved quality and accessibility of healthcare services.
It is important to note that Badakhshan Provincial Hospital remains the only fully equipped tertiary healthcare facility in the province, serving hundreds of patients daily, including residents from remote districts.
