2025-02-20

In response to recent remarks by an Iranian official regarding an alleged increase in drug trafficking from Afghanistan, the Islamic Emirate has categorically stated that both the cultivation and smuggling of narcotics in the country have been reduced to nearly zero.

The spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate reaffirmed Kabul’s unwavering commitment to its agreements with Tehran. Mawlawi Zabihullah Mujahid emphasized, “We are actively preventing all forms of trafficking. Narcotics have been eradicated in Afghanistan, and both their cultivation and smuggling have been virtually eliminated.”

Previously, Iran officials, expressed concerns over drug trafficking along Iran’s shared borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, alleging that narcotics reserves still exist in Afghanistan.

However, political analyst Fazl Rahman Oria highlighted that organized criminal networks in Iran continue to control substantial narcotics reserves and maintain access to them. He stressed that enhanced bilateral cooperation and coordination in counter-narcotics efforts would be instrumental in achieving more effective and sustainable outcomes. #
