Afghanistan–Russia Trade Surges to $366 Million in Eight Months
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan has reported a substantial increase in trade relations between Afghanistan and the Russian Federation. According to official statistics released by the ministry, the total value of bilateral trade between the two countries reached USD 366 million during the first eight months of the current fiscal year.
Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that bilateral trade during the corresponding period last year amounted to USD 174 million, reflecting an increase of USD 192 million year-on-year. He further noted that Afghanistan’s principal exports to Russia include raisins, mineral resources, apricots, industrial boilers, talc, and cotton, while imports from Russia consist of natural gas, petroleum products, timber, sunflower oil, industrial raw materials, wheat, and diesel fuel.
Economic analysts emphasize that the expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Kabul and Moscow has the potential to facilitate joint investments, particularly in the energy, agriculture, and industrial sectors, thereby contributing to enhanced economic stability in Afghanistan.
It is noteworthy that Russia ranks among the world’s leading producers of food commodities, oil and gas, metals, and industrial raw materials. Access to the Russian market could enable Afghanistan to secure a reliable supply of essential goods at competitive prices.
