The Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who arrived in Kabul at the head of a high-level delegation.

At the outset, Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund warmly welcomed Minister Araghchi and his accompanying delegation. He emphasized the need for increasing diplomatic, political, and economic relations between the two brotherly and Muslim nations.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, referencing the long-standing historical, religious, and economic ties between Iran and Afghanistan, expressed satisfaction over the widespread security that has been established in Afghanistan after four decades. He noted that the high-level acceptance of diplomats and the maintenance of relations reflect Iran’s strong ties with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Dr. Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s security and stability are interconnected with Afghanistan’s, and recent developments in Afghanistan have led to the conclusion that cooperation with the Islamic Emirate should be further expanded.

He also addressed the challenges faced by Afghan refugees in Iran and the issue of water resources, stressing that both concerns should serve as a foundation for enhancing cooperation. He assured that Iran is committed to the dignified return of illegal Afghan refugees.

The Iranian Foreign Minister further affirmed that Iran has no intention of interfering in Afghanistan's internal affairs and called for the full implementation of the Helmand River water agreement between the two countries as a solution to the water-related challenges.

Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund underscored the Islamic Emirate’s desire to increase exchanges of delegations between Iran and Afghanistan. He reaffirmed the Emirate’s commitment to resolving issues through mutual understanding with Iran.

He emphasized that fostering relations in an atmosphere of mutual respect and brotherhood would not only strengthen the ties between the two countries but also contribute to the prosperity and well-being of their peoples.

Prime Minister reiterated that Afghanistan has no intention of harming Iran regarding water issues and will engage in constructive dialogue based on goodwill.

Furthermore, he urged Iran to treat Afghan refugees in accordance with the principles of Islamic brotherhood, noting that the large-scale management of Afghan refugees returning to Iran, considering the economic factors, is not feasible in the short term. He called on Iran to adopt gradual measures to address the issue.

The Prime Minister addressed the ongoing reports of Afghan refugees being arrested and mistreated in Iran, stating that the execution of Afghan nationals occasionally generates public outcry. He emphasized that such issues should be handled with kindness and in accordance with the principles of good neighborliness.
