Kabul Municipality: 450 Kilometers of Road Constructed Over the Past 4.5 Years

Today, on Saturday April 11, 2026 during a press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), officials of the Kabul Municipality (KM) provided information on the KM’s activities and accomplishments.

During the press conference the officials said that the entire team of KM is fully committed to regulating, developing, and delivering urban services in the city of Kabul. They further stated that from Asad 1400 to Hoot 1404, KM constructed and developed a total of 450 kilometers of main and secondary roads, with widths ranging from 4 to 60 meters. These roads were built using asphalt, concrete, and paving stones. Also, a total of 472957 meters of roads have been repaired.

According to them, the construction of several vehicle overpasses has been completed, including a bridge on the connecting road from Qala-e-Zaman Khan main road to Kabul–Nangarhar road, a bridge along the road from Shaheed Hangra intersection to Qasaba road, a bridge on the route from Pul-e-Sokhta intersection to Pul-e-Jumhuriat intersection, a bridge on Company–Barchi road, and a bridge on the road in the Golai Mahtab Qala area. Construction work on two vehicle overpasses is currently ongoing in the Baraki area and Salang Watt. Also, the design of another vehicle overpass in the Minar Nijat area has been completed, and its construction will begin this year.

Based on the information, in the past four and a half years, Kabul Municipality has made important progress in improving urban development and construction standards by issuing 3402 building and housing permits in both planned and unplanned areas. Additionally, In the same period, a total of 18575 meters of canals have been built, and another 6147 meters are still under construction.

According to them, in the past four and a half years, a total of 6399019 saplings have been grown and planted to make the city greener and protect urban areas. In the same period, 12 parks were built and renovated in Kabul, and three more parks are still under construction. Also, land acquisition for 11287 properties has been completed across different parts of Kabul. To make the city brighter and more attractive, 29339 streetlights have been installed across Kabul, and 130 kilometers of road curbs have been painted.

The officials mentioned that for the year 1405, several development projects in different urban sectors are scheduled for implementation.
