MoPW: Implementation of 200 Projects Across Various Sectors Has Begun

On 26 July 2025, officials from the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), during a press conference at the Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), presented the MoPW’s annual achievements and performances as part of IEA’s entity to report the annual achievements.
During the press conference, the officials of MoPW stated that the implementation of 200 projects across various fields has kicked off, with many already completed and the execution of others progressing rapidly.
The officials further stated that feasibility studies for 1021 kilometers of streets have been completed, along with topographic surveys for 350 kilometers, and the design of 126.5 kilometers of roads and 17 bridges has also been finalized. Additionally, the design of 1395 kilometers of street is currently underway and has reached 66% completion.
Based on the information, the detailed survey and design of Phase Two, Segment Four of the Khoaf–Herat railway spanning 47.3 kilometers have been completed by an Iranian contracting company. The survey and design of the Torghundi–Herat railway project, spanning 113 kilometers, is currently ongoing. Meanwhile, the 96 kilometer Kandahar–Spin Boldak railway project has also been contracted to a private company. Meanwhile, negotiations with Turkmenistan are ongoing regarding the survey and design of the 55 kilometer railway line between Andkhoy and Sheberghan.
According to the officials, contracts totaling 264 million Afghanis have been signed with five companies for the detailed survey and design of the 737.5 kilometer Herat–Kandahar railway project. The Kabul–Kandahar highway, spanning 480 kilometers is undergoing reconstruction in various phases. The project work is being carried out in three layers of asphalt; the first, second, and third layers respectively. Additionally, as part of the Kabul–Kandahar highway reconstruction project, the construction includes 1700 crossing bridge bases and 48 major bridge bases.
The officials mentioned that extensive reconstruction is in progress, spanning 80 kilometers the Salang highway. At present, the work is being carried out in three sections including, Northern Salang, Southern Salang and Doshi–Khenjan. In the area of road maintenance, 45 projects worth over 3.1 billion Afghanis have been launched. Of these, 35 projects have been completed, 4 are currently underway, and 6 have been halted due to various reasons.
Furthermore, they said that repair, maintenance, and inspection work has been completed on over 236 kilometers of railway across four key routes; Hairatan–Mazar-e Sharif, Aqina–Andkhoy, Torghundi and the third segment of the Khoaf–Herat.
Based on the directive of the leadership of the IEA, construction has begun on 14 mosques along the Kabul–Herat highway. The total estimated cost of these projects is 467.7 million Afghanis. Of these, six mosques are being constructed across the Kabul–Kandahar highway, and eight are planned across the Kandahar–Herat highway.
