Enhancing Economic Activity and Employment in Afghanistan: Key Achievements of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs

A cornerstone of sustainable economic development in any country is the creation of a secure and transparent environment for both domestic and foreign NGOs, alongside the provision of stable employment opportunities for citizens.

In the current fiscal year (1404), the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Afghanistan implemented significant initiatives in this domain, reflecting a strong commitment to fostering economic growth and social welfare.

The Ministry of Economy, as the regulatory authority for the registration and oversight of domestic and foreign NGOs, currently supervises 2,587 institutions, comprising 2,387 domestic and 200 foreign entities. Over the course of 1404, total 72 new institutions (71 domestic and 1 foreign) were formally registered and granted operating licenses, while licenses for 302 domestic and 20 foreign NGOs were successfully renewed. These measures demonstrate a systematic effort to streamline business operations, promote transparency, and instill confidence among investors, thereby creating a conducive environment for sustainable economic development.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, in pursuit of workforce support and legal employment creation, issued work permits to 82,793 individuals, including 6,000 foreign nationals. This policy not only contributes to reducing unemployment but also strengthens the framework for attracting investment and promoting domestic industrial growth.

The impact of these initiatives extends well beyond the economic sphere. By establishing a legal and transparent framework for business operations and issuing work permits, these measures help curb informal economic activity, mitigate social challenges associated with unemployment, and bolster the development of domestic industries. Furthermore, systematic registration and supervision of institutions enhance investment conditions, ensure operational transparency, and foster trust in Afghanistan’s economic environment.

In conclusion, the achievements of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in 1404 represent a pivotal step toward strengthening the formal economy, supporting investors, and creating sustainable employment opportunities for Afghan citizens. The sustained implementation and expansion of these policies will be instrumental in promoting long-term economic growth and enhancing the social welfare of the nation.
